George McCrae - 7th October 2000

George McCrae live at the Cali R function

George was the founder member of the Miami Sound Machine and his unique style of disco dancing set the trend for the rest of the 70's. He is still the King of the Soul Side of Disco and gave a performance which earned three encores.

Sid Hudson will be spun the sounds in the main hall playing all the Soul & Motown Classics of the 60's & 70's with DJ Smiler and there were lots of Give-aways and fun features. Sid introduced George McCrea on stage at about 10.30pm.

The Age group was between 30 - 50, but quite a few younger people also enjoyed the Cali-R Groove.

Upstairs former Funk Mafia DJ Louis Martin played all the rare grooves of the 70's.

Louis was one of the big names from the California Ballroom and he went on to play in most of the big soul events nationwide including the never to be forgotten Knebworth all dayer.

He can be heard today on Oasis Radio. Jelly Bean also played either side of the Louis set. Mr Cool as he is known, has his own big following and plays his own brand of Jazz and Fusion, not to be missed.
